Continuing Education Program Outline

Initial Release Date: 5/1/2006

Phase I: Pre-Test Online

The first step in the HIV Certificate Program is the completion of an online self-assessment pre-test. This exercise has been designed in a multiple-choice format. There is no pass/fail percentage associated with this pre-test. Participants will receive an automatic scoring response upon completion to assess their knowledge point when beginning this program. The pre-test will assist us in tailoring the case study workshop session of this program to allow participants to achieve the designed competencies.

Phase II: Didactic Online Component

Upon completion of the pre-test, participants will be directed to an online series of required didactic readings. This material will be available for reference throughout the program, by downloading, printing or reading online. Participants must complete the didactic component prior to moving on to the post-test.

Phase III: Post-Test Online

After review of the didactic online component, participants will be instructed to complete the online post-test. An automatic score will be generated. Participants will need to score 70% or higher to achieve a passing grade. If this is not achieved the first time, participants will have an opportunity to take the post-test a second time.

Phase IV: Video

Upon completion of the post-test the online video should be viewed. (If participants have difficulty with the online video, a CD-ROM will be provided.) This video contains counseling techniques and instruction with regard to patient interaction.

Phase V: HIV Lecture Updates

This phase of the certificate program contains on-line educational lectures (presented in an audio synched with PowerPoint format). These lectures include information on “Antiretroviral Medications Update” “Avoiding and Managing Drug Interactions” “Addressing Adherence Barriers and Managing Antiretroviral Side Effects”.

Phase VI: Case Study Workshop

Once participants have completed viewing the presentations, they should print the on-line posted case and follow the instructions to prepare and register for a case study workshop teleconference.

Phase VII: Program Completion

Participants will complete the evaluation portion of this program and a statement of continuing education credit and letter of completion will be printable on-line.
